USA, FL: Docs Hop Shop brewery to permanently close its doors at the end of the month
Its the end of an era for Docs Hop Shop, a downtown Pensacola brewery that will be permanently closing its doors at the months end at 500 E. Heinberg St., Pensacola News Journal reported on September 11.
After years of pouring pints, sharing laughs, and building a community around great beer, our very own Doc is officially retiring. Docs Hop Shop will be closing its doors on September 30th, Docs Hop Shop shared in a social media statement. We cant thank Pensacola enough for all the love and support youve shown. Come raise a glass with us before then and help celebrate Docs retirement! Doctors orders.
The brewery replaced the former Gulf Coast Brewery in 2022, led by co-owners and father-and-son duo Steve Moehle and Rob Moehle.
Steve spent 28 years as a family doctor in Pensacola, but most everyone knew him as Doc. When retirement wasnt all it was cracked up to be, he started on a new, hobby-forward career venture alongside his son, leaning into puns such as the Two Pils Pilsner to align with the theme.
The brewery was redesigned to give a nostalgic, old-school atmosphere paired with craft beer. Some of the stand-outs included their raspberry wheat brewed with fresh raspberry puree, the Gulf Coast Blonde, Shark Bite IPA and Docs Mexican Lager,
We spent a lot of time thinking about what do you call a place? And it was about making sure that the name was obviously reflective of us, Rob told the News Journal in a previous interview. I was trying to envision the things that I really liked about growing up on the Gulf Coast. It was driving to the little convenience stores parents were buying beers and Styrofoam coolers. Coca Colas and bologna sandwiches. So much of the branding is really about trying to create a vintage look.
Now, Docs is calling on customers to help them clear out their inventory, offering specials while supplies last, such as $5 pints, $5 six-packs, $100 half barrels and $50 quarter barrels.
