Brewing news USA, FL: Southpaw Brewing Co. already open in Port St. Lucie

Southpaw Brewing Co. opened May 29 at The Shoppes at the Heart of Tradition in Port St. Lucie, one of many new restaurants opening in the area, TCPalm reported.

It's the second location of the brewery for Thomas Neidhart and his sons, T.J. and Michael. They opened their first location in Yaphank, Long Island, New York, in 2023.

Their partner and close friend, Matt Rappa of Wading River, New York, who has owned multiple pizzerias and restaurants in his hometown, oversees the food, Neidhart said. His daughter, Alyssa, is the face of the company.

The Long Island brewery derived its name from Neidhart being left-handed, as well as being the owner of Southpaw Construction in Wading River. A 22-foot-long bar has plush seats and indoor seating, while the outdoor dining patio has a lounge area with comfy couches and a firepit.

Neidhart said the Port St. Lucie location is the same concept with a similar menu, a full bar, craft-style beers, brick-oven pizzas and TVs with seating outside — but it has a bigger kitchen.

Southpaw Brewing is known for its craft beer, inventive craft cocktails and pub food, featuring crispy, flat-crust, brick-oven pizza that cooks in 3½ minutes in a Marra Forni rotator brick oven, which can use wood or coal. The 18 varieties on the menu include Mediterranean, pulled pork, jalapeno popper, Thai Chili chicken, soppressata and hot honey, New York-style vodka sauce, and gluten-free classic.

Appetizers include savory bar food, such as beef empanadas, short rib nachos, Angus beef chili, chicken cordon bleu, barbecue pulled pork totchos, deep-fried duck wontons, sweet chili boom boom shrimp, and a Philly cheesesteak and Southwest chicken egg rolls combo.

“We hope to make a big statement in the Heart of Tradition,” Neidhart said.
