Barley news World: Barley trade forecast slightly up at 27.755 mln tonnes this month

World barley trade in 2018/19 is forecast in USDA’s latest monthly report at 27.755 mln tonnes versus 27.53 mln tonnes in the October report.

Exports forecast is up for Russia (+200 thousand tonnes to 4.7 mln tonnes and Ukraine (+200 thousand tonnes to 4.5 mln), and down for Australia (-100 thousand tonnes to 5.7 mln tonnes). Import forecast is up at 8 mln tonnes versus 7.6 mln tonnes in last month’s report.

Barley production forecast is up at 141.324 mln tonnes versus 141.254 mln in the October report and 144.039 mln tonnes in 2017/18. Output forecast is down for Australia (7.4 mln tonnes vs. 7.8 mln in October), Canada (8.5 mln tonnes versus 8.8 mln tonnes), and Morocco (2.91 vs 2.5 mln last month). The EU’s production is seen at 57.35 mln tonnes vs. 57.25 mln tonnes last month.

World barley consumption is forecast at 142.673 mln tonnes this month vs. 142.978 mln in October and 148.037 mln tonnes in 2017/18. Ending stocks are seen at 17.702 mln tonnes vs. 17.427 mln last month and 19.051 mln tonnes in 2017/18.
