Barley news World: Barley trade forecast reduced to 27.53 mln tonnes

USDA in its October report reduced the forecast for world barley trade to 27.53 mln tonnes from 28.53 mln forecast in September.

Barley export forecast is down for the EU (-200 thousand tonnes to 5.3 mln) and Russia (-800 thousand tonnes to 4.5 mln).

Import forecast is down for Algeria (-100 thousand to 400 thousand tonnes), the EU (-100 thousand tonnes to 500 thousand), Iran (-300 thousand to 3 mln tonnes), Libya (-200 thousand tonnes to 300 thousand), Morocco (-100 thousand tonnes to 200 thousand), and Tunisia (-200 thousand tonnes to 400 thousand).

Production is expected at 141.254 mln tonnes vs. last month’s forecast of 142.726 mln tonnes (forecasts are down for the EU – 57.25 mln tonnes vs. 57.65 mln last month, Russia – 16.5 mln tonnes vs. 17.5 mln, and the US – 3.333 mln tonnes vs. 3.4 mln tonnes).

Total barley consumption is expected at 142.978 mln tonnes versus 143.969 mln tonnes, and ending stocks are forecast at 17.427 mln tonnes versus the previous forecast of 17.967 mln.
