EU: German malt output flat in July-March 2017/18
According to the latest report by H. M. Gauger GmbH, Germany produced a total of 1.368 mln tonnes of malt in July-March 2017/18 versus 1.366 mln tonnes over the same period in 2016/17.
German malt exports in- and outside the EU are reported at 527,000 tonnes (457,000), imports at 163,000 tonnes (165,000).
The U.K. malted 1.403 mln tonnes of barley in July-March, up 2% from a year ago.
French estimate for the campaign 2017/18 is a barley use of 1.66 mln tonnes for malting, of which 310,000 for domestic brewers, up from 255,000 tonnes in 2016/17.
