Belgium & Italy: Duvel Moortgat gains control of Italy’s Ducato microbrewery
Belgium’s Duvel Moortgat has increased its stake in Italian craft brewer Ducato to 70%, LaLibre reported on February 21.
Launched in 2007 in Soragna (province of Parma), Birrificio del Ducato used to brew around 5 thousand hl of beer per year before Duvel’s intervention. After its initial stake acquisition, the Belgian company invested in a new bottling line at Ducato.
Duvel acquired a minority stake in Ducato in late 2016. The company owns four breweries in Belgium, three in the United States, one in the Czech Republic, one in the Netherlands, and is now the controlling shareholder of Ducato in Italy.
